Feature:CCS Comments and Queries
We like to pass along some of the comments and queries that come into the Calendar Collectors Society's office, hopeful some of our readers may have additional comments or can respond to the queries. Contact information is provided for each query so that you can respond directly without coming back through the CCS office, however we do encourage you to cc. us on responses. Now, please ready what people are saying:
Hi! I'm trying to find a 1944 and 1946 calendar plate for a Christmas gift. I realize that this was around World War II. Is this why they're hard to find? These are the years my in-laws were born. We have the kid's plates and need the parents. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you Laura. E-mail: LilRedRodr@aol.com (Editor's note: We know any calendar plates from the 1940s are tremendously scarce and there may be years where they just were not produced at all. You calendar plate collectors - do you know definitely what years may not have any representation? Let us know at: info@calendarcollectors.org Thanks.)
I am desperately looking for a 1921 John Deere calendar. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Adam Buck. E-mail: a.buck@worldnet.att.net
I am looking for information on the availability of some calendars that I have. The artist is Paola Casagrande and the calendars were done for Luxottica, an Italian eyewear company. They are large and very unique. Could anyone give me any idea of other sites or contacts? I have 1990 through 1999; I'm missing 1995 and 1998, but I have two 1994's and two 1996's. Thank you. E-Mail: scordisco@everettclinic.com
Success! You ran my query in the October newsletter and a wonderful person(s) Kay & Clem Campbell responded to my request and sent me two calendars and only wanted reimbursement for the postage!! Jean Maase
I deal a bit in Americana in Wichita, KS and recently purchased a 1916 Coke calendar. The calendar pages are missing and the item needs restoration - torn, etc. As I am not a Coke expert, perhaps you could point me in the right direction regarding a possible buyer. I will sell the item cheap in "as is" condition to avoid restoration or will restore and add the cost to the sales price. Any information would be appreciated. Barry Reynolds. E-Mail: buybear@aol.com
Please help. I have recently come for sets of calendar cards dating 1897, 1898, 1899, 1900 and three out of four cards for 1901. On the front of each card is a different lithograph by artist L. Frauius depicting characters with skulls. On the back is an advertisement for a Medication called AntiKamnia. These cards appear to have been distributed by the Antikamina Chemical Company, St. Louis, Missouri and printed by G. H. Buek & Co. Lith N.Y. Can anyone provide any background information on these cards? Anne Keady. E-Mail: annemeave@aol.com
I'm looking to purchase Hood's milk calendars circa 1926-1929. If anyone has one of these, please let me know. If you have one, but aren't interested in selling it, please let me know if you can provide me with a copy of the baby on the cover. My mom was a Hood's Milk baby during this time, and I'd like to give her a copy of it as a gift. Thanks. Karen. E-Mail: phbalanced@hotmail.com
Is there such a thing as an index of Currier & Ives prints published in Travelers Insurance Co. calendars? E-Mail: fwalker99@aol.com
Hello! I am in search of a perpetual calendar. Made of wood with interchangeable season plaques (actually semi-glossy paper), they were designed by either Debbie Mumm or Mary Engelbreit. Any anyone help me? Thank you. M. B. Brehm E-Mail: bunchabrehms@cs.com
I remember that some years ago there was a calendar in the stores called "the growing up calendar." It is possible that more than one calendar over the years had the same name, but the others were totally different, and were produced by different people. Only the calendar's name was the same. The specific calendar that I am referring to was designed by a woman photographer. It featured lovely photos of her daughter at different ages. In other words, the January page had a baby picture. The December page showed her daughter as a young woman. And, all the pages in between showed the daughter at different stages of childhood and adolescence. On each month's page, she was older than on the previous month's page. I wonder if some calendar dealer or collector might have this calendar. The trouble is that I remember only the calendar's name - Growing Up Calendar - but I do not remember the year or the name of the photographer. Could anyone help? Thank you. Jerrold Greenberg. E-Mail: jerryinchelsea@worldnet.att.net
I'm a calendar collector from Germany. My hobby is collecting calendar cards (pocket calendars) in the size of playing cards. My favorite subjects are caves, landscapes, Coca-Cola and others. I'd like to exchange calendar cards with some of your CCS members. Are there other collectors of pocket calendars? Thomas Schneider E-Mail: thoschnbasa@web.de (Editor's note: The Calendar Collectors Society has a number of pocket calendar collectors on our e-news list representing around 10 countries. Hope some of you other collectors contact Thomas.)

Issue:The Annual Crop of "New" Calendars
We're going to turn this issue into a reader response survey. This is the time of year when the calendar stores suddenly "appear" in the shopping malls offering hundreds and hundreds of mostly wall calendars with every conceivable subject area. (Our local mall has two large calendar stores which came in during the past month.) Most of these are 12-page/12-month photographic calendars and the going rate is around $10. (When the stores close in January or February, usually the left over calendars can be purchased for half price or less.) These are "generic" subject calendars, not advertising calendars, and are basically produced for people to buy as gifts. The Calendar Collectors Society has had several queries: Are these calendars collectible? Will they ever be highly sought after? Please read further...
We are interested, as a calendar collector or ephemera collector, what is your opinion? Many of these calendars have absolutely beautiful photography and artwork and are of quality production. Do they have any collectible potential? What would make some of them more collectible than others? Let us hear from you at: info@calendarcollectors.org We'll run the results in the next eNews newsletter.

Getting "Ooh's" and "Aah's" Out of Your Collection!
A group of collectors at a big national show were having a quick relaxing lunch as the show started to wind down. Another fellow collector casually asked a friend, "How's your collection coming along?" The response was simply "Want to see?".
Then out comes one of the hobby's best tools -- an organized set of color photocopies and pictures, bound together, of most of his collection ready for us to enjoy. Among the "Ooh's" and the "Aah's" and the "Wow, haven't seen that one before," it was obvious that everyone was enjoying themselves and getting an education to boot.
The collector didn't really bring the photocopies just to show off his collection; but it was definitely reinforcement that he has a good eye and the drive to go with it. He had originally conceived it as a way to accurately track his collection and to see the sometimes-subtle varieties that can exist out there. It's also a wonderful way to have a good record for insurance purposes.
Many collectors are now scanning their treasures, or photos of their collectibles, whatever they may be, and using the computer as an additional tool for recording what they have amassed. The future possibilities look wild.
But nothing may really replace those great old photocopies of a well developed and well done collection. (Submitted by Rob Payne, National Chapter Coordinator, American Political Items Collectors http://apic.ws)

NAC Insurance Program Announces Reduced Rates!
The National Association of Collectors (NAC) insurance program was developed strictly with the collector in mind. If you have a collection, you need NAC Collectors' Insurance. Where can you get $20,000 in coverage for only $50 annually? ...or, $125,000 worth for $200 annually? This compares to the previous rates of $66 for $20,000 worth of collector insurance or $271 for $125,000 worth of insurance. Check out the rate schedule listed below:
Why you need it...Many Homeowners Insurance Policies do NOT cover antiques and collectibles or have limited coverage and qualifiers. Some Insurance companies will add scheduled coverage but the rates are high and they require an appraisal or require a list of every item which can be expensive and difficult to get.
Check out the NAC insurance program's economical rates. Amount of coverage: Minimum $20,000 - annual premium $50. $25,000 costs $63. $30,000 costs $75. $50,000 costs $125. $75,000 costs $150. $100,000 costs $175. $125,000 costs $200. $150,000 costs $225. $200,000 costs $275. For a complete chart of insurance rates go to: http://collectors.org and click on the NAC insurance program button on the home page.
NAC Insurance is provided by Association Insurance Administrators. No appraisals are required. Only single items over $2500 need to be listed on the application. For replacement cost, you will be paid the current market retail value of the item at the time of loss. ("Current Market Value" means the amount, at the time of the loss, that it would cost to replace a property with another of similar age, quality, origin, appearance and condition within a reasonable length of time in an appropriate and relevant market.) NAC Insurance is truly "all-risk" coverage, including fire, lightning, windstorm, vandalism, theft, vehicle overturn, accidental breakage, flood, earthquake, and shopping coverage. There is hassle free claim settlement by Association Insurance Administrators' experts. NOTE: This policy WILL NOT cover dealer inventory.
For more information visit the NAC Insurance page on the http://collectors.org website, call Association Insurance Administrators toll free at 1.800.287.7127 or FAX 1.704.895.9088. Ask for an NAC insurance information packet.
