Calendar Price Guide
Calendars are collected for their colorful prints, often attributed to a well-recognized artist
of the period. Advertising calendars from just before the turn of the century to the present
often have double appeal when representing a company whose items are also collectible. All calendars
listed in this price directory are "complete" meaning those with monthly pads have such pads intact,
unless otherwise noted. Condition can be considered very good or better. These prices usually come
from what the specific calendar has brought at auction or seen at a show or shop. There is tremendous
discrepancy in values, thus this listing should be used as a guide only. Similar items could dictate
quite different values at any auction on any given day.
As with many other lines of collectibles, age is only one determining factor in estimating value.
You can still pick up some good quality calendars from the 19th century for reasonable prices. Those
relating to highly sought after collectible products such as Coca-Cola, are commanding very high
prices. Likewise, the calendar art by noted artists, is escalating in value. Calendars with local
advertising, naturally, bring the most money in that particular local area.
Condition is important. "Complete" calendars, meaning those which have their entire Jan-Dec pads
attached (if a pad-type calendar) bring a premium over the same calendar that has the pad missing.
Those that have some of the months remaining are valued somewhere inbetween. Like any other paper
collectible, calendars which are stained or soiled, torn, faded or damaged in any way should be
reduced proportionately in value, however even calendars "with problems" seem to be bringing escalated
prices compared to their auction prices only two or three years ago.
This listing is not intended to give a complete directory of calendars, but only representative
issues for each year and for vrious types of calendars. Calendar art, by itself, is not included in
this guide. As a working price guide on the Calendar Collectors Society web site, the guide will be
in continuous update mode. CCS members participate in the updating process and in adding/deleting
entries. Everyone who has access to our web site is welcome to use the price guide. We hope it will
be of value.

| CALENDAR PLATES |
|
Calendar plates were usually used as gifts, often as advertising giveaways, most popular in
America from the early 1900s until the late 1920s. The majority of the plates were made of
porcelain or pottery, decorated with very colorful underglaze decals of flowers, animals,
scenery, lovely ladies or historical events and, of course, the 12 months of the year of
their issue. Many were also advertising giveaways and carried the name of a local store or
business. A few were made of glass or tin. Calendar plates continued to be produced after
the 1920s, and are still available today, but not with the creativity in design. Those
with exceptional designs, or the very early ones (particularly before 1909), are the most
desirable. Like most collectibles, chips, cracks, crazing or extensive wear or fading reduces the value.
